Course Reflection

This course was difficult for me. English is not my strongest subject, and I struggle with getting what I am thinking down on paper the way I would like some of the time. It was also difficult for me because this is the first online course I have ever taken in my life. The adjustment period to how online classes are ran and work was much longer than I would have wanted. Staying on top of the due dates was much more difficult for me than in a classroom based setting. The actual learning portion of the class I enjoyed and regret that I didn’t stay on top of things like I should’ve. I feel that my writing has improved over the course of this semester and I would recommend this course to someone else.
Throughout the semester I have learned many different strategies and grammatical ways to make my writing better. Some examples are: selecting and applying good voice, organizing my writing, and analyzing my fellow peers’ writing as well as my own. These are all things that will come in handy in the future with my writing when I have to use it in my life. Learning to read and write reflections on what I have comprehended is something that has never been my strong suit, but I feel that I have progressed in this area of English since arriving at college. My writing has most definitely improved since this semester began and I have the instructor to thank for that.
Something that I haven’t liked to do ever since I can remember is read. Seeing as it is a major part of English, arguably as important as writing, I have had to buckle down and focus to try and get the reading throughout the semester done. The reading throughout this semester was difficult for me to get through but I enjoyed the different stories and poems that I had to read and analyze. I have learned to interpret and analyze different texts. I can now identify and evaluate meanings and perspectives in language which will more than likely come in very handy later on down the road. Reading is still not my strongest suit but it doesn’t feel like so much of a struggle, when I have to get through a piece of work, anymore.
A very foreign territory for me at the beginning of this semester was blogging. I had never created a blog or known anything about blogging before, this semester. I now not only know how to create a blog, but also how to attach links, videos, and pictures to make my blog look professional.
This entire semester has been a learning processes. The things I have learned in this class will help me later on in life, and I look forward to applying these things. I have learned reading, writing, and life skills during the duration of this course. I will have a more successful approach to the next online class I take because of what I have learned in this one. I look forward to moving forward in English and in life and the money spent on this class was worth it and the things I have taken out of it will make it pay off in the end.
